Spring into Shape & Boost Your Immune System

Spring into Shape & Boost Your Immune System

Before you put on your favorite workout clothes, do your stretches, and head out for a run, consider what you can do to make your health a priority by strengthening your immune system and focusing on supplements to help you get in shape.

Here are three specific areas where we can help you: Joint Health, Immune Health, and Mental Health.

Joint Health

Are you one of the 27 million otherwise healthy individuals in our nation that suffer from painfully worn out, stiff achy joints? Research indicates that 43% of all adults over the age of 45 struggle with noticeable joint discomfort in their hands, knees, hips and/or spine. Statistics confirm that by age 65 nearly 80% of the population will have experienced substantially compromised joint structure — a condition that will only worsen with time, unless it is addressed proactively.

Joint deterioration is a serious matter, and Life Priority is proud to offer quality supplements like Joint Decision™ and Total Joint Complex™ for your joint health to help keep you active.

Brain Health

Everything that happens in your brain — every memory, every thought, every emotion, every innovation is a result of the release of neurotransmitters, which ae made from the nutrients in your diet. However, there’s a very good change that your daily diet may not be providing the optimum amount of raw materials your brain needs for good brain health. Proper nutrition and quality supplements by Life Priority such as Lift™, Lift Caps™, Mind™, PS Priority™ and Omega-3 Priority™ contribute to brain health and mood enhancement.

Lift™ An energy-boosting nutritional supplement to help you fire up your brain naturally and add the key nutrients to help eliminate mental fatigue and brain fade. Lift Caps™ Lift Caps™ fire up your brain naturally and jump start your day; capsule form — a convenient alternative to Lift™ powder.

Mind™ A Life Priority-Designer Food Formula by Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw®; a great tasting lemon-lime citrus cooler containing choline, also known as brain food”, and essential nutrient cofactors.

PS Priority™ – Phosphatidylserine is a cell membrane phospholipid needed for proper memory function. Adequate levels help enhance membrane flexibility, permeability, strength, and the ability to withstand stress.

Small Steps to Big Changes

Take the Stairs: Besides the extra calories you’ll burn by taking the stairs, you’ll also strengthen muscle and improve cardiovascular health. So make an intentional decision to take the stairs instead of opting for the elevator or escalator.

Park Further From Your Destination: Again, an easy way to burn some additional calories. Not only that, but how many times have you circled around the parking lot, looking for that sweet spot close to the entrance. Just hoof it – save time and get moving.

Make the Most of Your Lunch Break: Instead of sitting in front of your computer or scrolling social media during your lunch break, go for a short walk. Just like parking further from your destination, it doesn’t take much to make a difference. Adding in a 20 minute walk each day, paired with other small changes can add up to big changes.

Commercial Breaks: Be honest. You don’t have time to fit in exercise, but you have plenty of time to watch television, right? Use those commercial breaks to fit in some jumping jacks, crunches, squats and push-ups.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Increase Gray Matter In The Human Brain

Fighting the Blahs: DHA and EPA – Omega-3 Fatty Acids Which Increase Gray Matter in Human Brain Areas That Regulate Emotions

The Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw®
Life Extension NewsTM
Volume 17 No. 7 • August 2014

Decreases in the brain’s gray matter takes place in various areas during aging. These decreases are associated with cognitive decline. A 2007 paper1 reported the results of an examination via magnetic resonance imaging of gray matter volume in 55 middle aged male and female subjects (mean age = 44.7) and related the decreased gray matter to the dietary intake of long chain omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA). The subjects were divided into three groups based on long chain omega-3 intake: low 0-20 mg/day, n=16; medium (25–70 mg/day, n=21; and high 80-1600 mg/day, n=18.

Do you ingest enough choline

Deficiency of long chain omega-3 fatty acids has been associated with increased circulating levels of glucocorticoids, which the authors attribute to HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary axis) hyperactivity.

The results showed that a higher intake of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids was associated with increased gray matter volume in the subgenual ACC (anterior cingulate cortex) and in an overlapping region of the right amygdala and right hippocampus, areas important for emotion arousal and regulation.

The authors cautioned that the study included only a small number of subjects and that the intake of EPA and DHA was estimated from dietary recall rather than actual measurements of blood fatty acid composition. Nevertheless, the data are consistent with animal studies in which DHA supplementation, for example, has been shown to increase neurite growth and c-Fos containing neurons (indicating neuronal activity) in the hippocampal CA1 field of the rat brain.

Greg Pryor – September 2018 Men’s Health!

September Celebrates of Men’s Health!

In today’s fast-paced lifestyles, most men’s health is faced with increasing mental and physical demands as they age. Personally, I have found that an easy, logical way to slow up my aging process is to keep my body and brain more fit through the use of a few essential supplements with each meal.

I urge all men to consider, at least, the use of the following supplements:

  •  Lifeguard-a high-quality multivitamin created to try and help to provide immune support and fill in the gaps of your diet,
  •  Omega-3 Priority™-a potent omega-3 supplement for heart (EPA) and brain health (DHA),
  • Prostate Priority™ specific nutrients that may help promote a healthy prostate,
  •  Joint Decision™ or Total Joint Complexglucosamine that may help to support and maintain healthy cartilage health.

I feel that the consistent, daily use of the right nutrients in supplement form (and in adequate amounts!) is one of the most important health decisions that we can make. Based on the past 20 years of being in the dietary supplement industry through my company, Life Priority, and my 16 year career as a pro athlete, I feel strongly that using high-quality supplements is imperative. Your diet is most likely lacking in one or more essential nutrients. You can help yourself feel better and slow up your personal aging process by using high-quality supplements.

In addition, men’s health is at increased risk for heart related issues including heart attack and cardiovascular disease. They are also at a higher risk for prostate cancer. Both heart disease and prostate cancer affect millions of men every year and take many away from their families and friends too soon. If men can incorporate more exercise, consume more health supplements; bone restore; hair skin and nails; two per day capsules; c vitamin; vitamin c; vitamin c2; c2 vitamin; omega 3 supplement; health booster; vitamin k; vitamin d; vitamin d3; one per day vitamin; one per day multivitamin; glucosamine chondroitin; life extension magnesium; magnesium supplement; coq10 supplement; viatmin e supplement; glutathione cysteine; supplement nac; black seed oil; glucosamine; n acetyl cysteine; nacetyl l cysteine; fish oil; supplements fish oil; acetyl cysteine; omega 3 supplements; fish oil pill; omega 3 from fish oil; best fish oil supplements; n acetylcysteine cysteine; omega 3 supplements best; b complex; fish oil benefits; vitamins and supplements; black seed oil benefits; flush niacin; glucosamine chondroitin; vitamin life extension; supplements life extension; life extension multivitamin; life extension magnesium; magnesium caps; prostate ultra; fish oil vitamins; supplements vitamins; durk pearson; durk pearson and sandy shawfish with essential fatty acids (EFA’s), visit their doctors regularly and watch out for depression and high blood pressure, stop smoking and use a daily multivitamin, they can increase their life expectancy and live healthier, fuller lives.

I have been involved as a retail customer or a marketer of dietary supplements since 1991.  Don’t leave your physical and mental well-being up to anyone else! It’s your life! Your body, including your brain, is aging each day and you can give yourself a better chance at living a healthier (and happier!) life by simply using enough of the right nutrients each day with meals or at bedtime.

I helped form Life Priority, Inc. in 1994 to secure the nutritional products I wanted for my own personal use.  A major reason that Life Priority was formed was because of the research of 2 scientists who were the co-authors of a NY Times best-seller Life Extension, A Practical Scientific Approach, which was written specifically for doctors. The authors, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, wrote Life Extension so that doctors could understand how using certain nutrients in adequate amounts could slow up the aging process.

Supplements and Stress – The value of omega-3 fatty acids and phosphatidylserine to help reduce stress

One of the more important dietary supplements for combating the effects of stress are omega-3 fatty acids. Increasing omega-3 consumption in the diet, especially docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
and phosphatidylserine can reduce stress hormone levels in both animals and humans. Supplementation with a specific omega-3 fatty acids, phosphatidylserine has been shown to reduce a number of stress-related hormones such as adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol in both animals and humans.

Studies have shown that taking phosphatidylserine after a physically stressful event, such as long-distance running, weightlifting, or competitive cycling, can reduce the usual increasing cortisol levels,
reduce muscle soreness, and accelerate recovery. Phosphatidylserine also can reduce the stress from demanding mental and emotional activities. Since phosphatidylserine levels decrease in the
brain as we age, studies in the elderly have shown that phosphatidylserine supplementation can improve both long-term and short-term memory, cognition, and logical thinking.

However, these results do not seem to be consistently reproducible. Some studies show a significant benefit, and other studies demonstrate either limited benefit or no benefit whatsoever. The question is “why are these results so different?” The answer may be that those participants who respond poorly to stress may benefit the most from phosphatidylserine. A study inadvertently composed of participants who have a difficult time handling stress, may skew the results toward a positive outcome. In contrast, if the study is composed of individuals who handle stress more easily, the results would probably trend toward no benefit.

One recent German medical study looked at the effect of supplementation with phosphatidylserine on subgroups of participants undergoing a mentally stressful test. In this study, participants were
divided into two basic groups, one group receiving phosphatidylserine and the other group receiving a placebo. The patients then underwent psychologically stressful testing. A number of psychological and physiological stress parameters were followed throughout the duration of the study. The results were then stratified into people who respond strongly to stress and those who don’t respond very strongly to stress.

The results were interesting. For individuals who do not respond very strongly to stress, phosphatidylserine supplementation did not seem to be of benefit. In contrast, individuals who responded strongly to stress, saw significantly reduced stress measures after taking phosphatidylserine. In this subgroup, phosphatidylserine was very beneficial.  Phosphatidylserine is derived from soy and is generally recognized as safe by the FDA. The best dietary sources of phosphatidylserine are in seafood rarely found in the American diet: mackerel, herring and eel.

“For those who are under chronic stress, omega-3 fatty acids and phosphatidylserine supplementation seem to be to be a logical dietary option. During stressful times of the year, I use it myself.”

Stress less with Music

I need a personal assistant, as I always manage to pack my days from beginning to end with various different tasks, events and plans. Everything from work and working out to obligations with friends. Unfortunately, I do not have a personal assistant, and it’s not uncommon for me to overbook myself and spread myself too thin. Having several different things I’m passionate about, leaves me wanting to be everywhere doing everything at once! Now that It is the holiday season, I have to fit shopping and family parties into the mix, which makes things even more intense and exhausting!

So what do I do when I think I’m about to spin out of control or simply pass out? The answer lies embedded in so many of my memories. For as long as I can remember, I have always turned to music. When I was on the bus to an away basketball game, after a longMan on treadmill day of class and friends, I would put on my headphones to unwind. Humming to myself, eyes closed, I would listen to the calming tones of The Vines. My mind would instantly go from running in circles to standing still, and fully focused on the game.

When I leave the house in the morning, my mind is already running through all the different tasks that lie before me, and it’s not uncommon for me to forget things in the mix! But it has been proven that music can help your memory! Knowing this, I wrote a little song to help me remember the basics! I sing, “don’t forget your phone, keys or purse, because that is the worst”. That’s right, I have been known to forget my purse, but when you have so many distractions, things get left behind!

There have been several other times in my life that I have found a sweet comforting calm in the arms of a good song. One time in particular happened my senior year of college. I was wrapped up in classes, cheerleading, choir, church and friends, when I received a call from my sister. My mom had fallen very ill, and needed to be hospitalized. I rushed home from Iowa to be with her, and stay up with her in ICU overnight. As she screamed in pain, weaving in and out of sleep, I sang to her. I sang old church hymns and Jason Mraz songs, all of our favorites. As the sun came up, she finally fell asleep, right as I was losing my voice. To this day she doesn’t remember that night, as the medication and her condition at that time wiped her memory of those hours. As I left in the morning (since my sister was there to stay with her) the overnight nurses of the ICU thanked me for singing and bringing comfort to the other patience. I’m glad I was able to bring music to that place of high stress and tension, but I wasn’t singing for them. I was singing for myself. In the wake of senior year stress, and my mother’s illness, I was singing to myself to find calm in the hurricane of life. I don’t know if I would have made it through the night without those old familiar songs to ease the weight of stress and worry on my heart.

In the hustle of life, it’s easy to get lost in the comings and goings and all the things that seem so important. But none of those things are more important than your personal health.  as it has the power to take you back to the first time you heard that song and really felt what it means. A song can simply help you breathe.

B12 is responsible for energy production because it turns carbohydrates & other fats into energy your body can use throughout the day.

Short-term memory, and critical thinking problems?

Today’s fast-paced world demands people be mentally capable of multitasking and their Simple Tips on How to Cope with Stress. If you want to reduce stress, understand these three common problems and situations that create it.brains functioning at a high level, but this isn’t always the case. Exhaustion, fatigue, stress, and forgetting everyday chores are common, and there may be a good explanation for all this. Some doctors have noted for cases of vitamin B12 deficiencies in people which can cause the symptoms above.

Vitamin B12 is responsible for energy production because it turns carbohydrates and other fats into energy your body can use throughout the day. In addition, vitamin B12 helps with the repair of cells and their growth. Therefore, B12 can help your immune system function properly, while also helping regulate mood and sleep patterns. Even though all these are important for our bodies to function properly, some recent research suggests B12’s major contribution is protecting our brain from wearing down at faster rates.

As we get older, it is natural for our cognitive abilities to decline and challenge our routines. Studies have shown elderly people with low levels of B12 are more susceptible to concentration, short-term memory, and critical thinking problems. This may scare some of you, but we can do something to help combat the natural aging process. We can start taking control of our health and begin by eating healthier foods and beverages. Food and drink alone cannot provide the correct amount of nutrients and vitamins we need to stay healthy and function at maximum capacity, so it becomes necessary to invest in supplements to fill in the missing gaps in our diets.

Our brains drive the car that is our body, so we must take care of it and provide as much support as possible for the brain to work properly. If you can increase the amount of B12 in your system, you can start seeing noticeable, positive changes in your mental faculties. Your memory, thinking, and energy can all improve. Also, your sleep patterns can improve (resulting in a more restful night’s sleep), you can have fewer mood swings, and your immune system can be stronger than ever. Who would have thought ingesting more B12 MIND - nutrient drink mix containing choline to promote focus and concentration.could potentially help with so many important aspects of our lives.

To see if our high quality supplements with vitamin B12 product is right for you, check out Mind, Lift, and Lift Caps on our website, lifepriority.com, and start making your health a bigger life priority today.

What is Phosphatidylserine?

As we age, the demands of life only seem to grow, and our bodies and minds begin to gradually decline which can make things difficult for us. The mental decline as we age can be especially frustrating, and may lead to other potential problems. Although aging and its side effects are inevitable, we can fight back by becoming healthier. The combination of valuable supplements and a smart and balanced diet might help us live longer and happier. One essential chemical compound for maintaining a healthier mind is phosphatidylserine.

Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid that aids in the function of our cell membranes – specifically, the brain. So just what does the cell membrane do? The cell membrane does a lot of things, but it helps move waste out of our cells, keeps the cell intact and moves essential nutrients into our various cells to keep us healthy.

phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine is naturally produced in the body, but only in small amounts. To obtain the right amount, we need to include it in our diet by eating foods like muscle and organ meats, and white beans. We can also get it from soybeans and various other plant sources.

Of course, you should always consult a doctor as to ascertain the proper dosage and to what capacity it should be a part of your diet (not recommended for children, pregnant women and people with kidney or liver diseases).

The aging process isn’t always a cake walk, so it’s important to develop a healthy diet and lifestyle. Working out every day for a short time, eating right and adding supplements and foods with essentials nutrients are all vital to a healthy life.

Phosphatidylserine is one chemical compound that’s important for our mental stability and health, so make sure to research the benefits it could have on your life.

Key Supplements for Better Brain Health: Omega 3, B-Vitamins, and D3

Neurology ® Dec. 28, 2011, DOI: 10.1212/WNL.0b013e3182436598).

Numerous studies suggest that people with higher intakes of the omega-3 essential fatty acids; vitamins C, D, E, and the B vitamins were less likely to have brain shrinkage. These nutrients have also been associated with higher scores on mental thinking tests.

One particular study involved 104 people with an average age of 87 and very few risk factors for memory and thinking problems. Blood tests were used to determine the levels of various nutrients present in the blood of each participant. All of the participants also took tests of their memory and thinking skills. A total of 42 of the participants had MRI scans to measure their brain volume.

The participants overall had good nutritional status, but 7 percent were deficient in vitamin B12 and 25 percent were deficient in vitamin D.

Physician Pointing at Brain MRI

Previous studies have looked at only one or a few nutrients at a time or have used questionnaires to assess people’s diet. This study was among the first of its type to specifically measure a wide range of blood nutrient levels instead of basing findings on less precise data such as food questionnaires. Questionnaires rely on people’s memory of their diet, and they also do not account for how much of the nutrients are absorbed by the body, which can be an issue in the elderly.

In contrast, the study found people with diets high in trans fats were more likely to have brain shrinkage and lower scores on the thinking and memory tests.

The study was supported by the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute on Aging and National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, Portland VA Medical Center.

In Conclusion: study author Gene Bowman, ND, MPH, of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, a member of the American Academy of Neurology, said that the nutrient biomarkers in the blood accounted for a significant amount of the variation in both brain volume and thinking and memory scores. For the thinking and memory scores, the nutrient biomarkers accounted for 17 percent of the variation in the scores. Other factors such as age, number of years of education and high blood pressure accounted for 46 percent of the variation. For brain volume, the nutrient biomarkers accounted for 37 percent of the variation.

In the News: Women’s Dementia Worsens Faster Than Men’s

So says a headline in the July 22, 2015 The Wall Street Journal. According to the study (398 subjects who participated in the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative), women’s cognitive decline took place about twice as fast as men’s. The good news is that it is very likely, based on scientific studies showing that women need more choline than men do (Fischer, 2007), and that, as choline has been identified as a nutrient important to cognition (Poly, 2011) a deficiency of choline is one cause of this vulnerability to dementia in women. Not only does estrogen play an important role in the cholinergic nervous system (Fischer, 2007, Craig, 2010)—estrogen that declines rapidly following menopause—but it is known that in older people, choline is taken up less effectively into the brain (Cohen, 1995). In addition, women are much more susceptible to autoimmune diseases than men are and the cholinergic nervous system is a major antiinflammatory system (Tracey, 2007).

Add it all up and the evidence points to a need for additional choline in older women. The amount of choline recommended by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) for non-pregnant women, 425 mg a day, is (in our judgment) too low to supply adequate amounts of choline to older women when you consider the reduced ability to transport choline into the brain, the loss of estrogen, and also the variation (dietary composition (van Wijk, 2012), choline consumption, genetic and epigenetic differences in the ability to absorb choline from the diet, get it into the brain, and then convert it to phospatidylcholine via biochemical pathways) between individuals suggests that the amount that may be adequate for much of the population per the IOM recommendation may not be adequate for YOU.

In short, choline is a major nutrient for keeping your cognitive function in good condition as you get older. We ourselves take 2 grams a day of choline in the form of choline dihydrogen citrate.
