So what is Phenylalanine?

Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid that acts as an appetite suppressant by promoting the release of intestinal hormone-cholecystokinin-which signals the brain to feel satisfied after eating. The amino acid L-Phenylalanineis found in a variety of foods, including almonds, avocados, bananas, brown rice, cheese, corn, eggs, fish, lima beans, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, and soy products. Problem is, you’d have to eat lots of extra calories in order to get an effective amount.

No matter how hard you try to avoid calorie-laden carbs, let’s face it-after a lifetime of bad eating habits, it’s tough. And even if you’ve switched over to eating fruits and air-popped popcorn, the carbohydrates quickly add up, which can contribute to a rapid increase in blood sugar levels-which the body responds to by raising levels of insulin. Inevitably weight gain, occurs around the middle, with a craving for sweets, breads, or other carbohydrates shortly after a meal-which only adds to the vicious cycle of trying to get off the carbohydrate merry-go-round.

If you take Lift or Lift Caps with L- Phenylalanine, 30 minutes to one hour before eating a meal, you’ll notice that you’ll might feel more alert and feel full faster- so you don’t fill up on extra calories that you don’t need! And not only that, you’ll stay full longer so you don’t get that late afternoon or after-dinner snack attack. Lift is a  great support for those of who need more motivation and energy to exercise too! Lift can help support a more productive and positive exercise regiment. Before you know it, those extra pounds you’ve been carrying around will start to melt away-safely and effortlessly.

So Stay Positive with Lift, and Exercise!

Caution: Phenylalanine should not be taken by pregnant women, or those who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, phenylketonuria, skin cancer, or anxiety attacks. It should not be used it taking MAO inhibitor drugs, commonly prescribed for depression.

Did you know that your organs, tissues, muscles and hormones are all made from proteins? The protein found in foods is used by every part of the body to develop, grow and function properly.

It can be argued that nothing is more important than consuming protein foods, and because proteins are involved in just about every body function, it’s important that you consume foods high in protein every day, during every meal to prevent protein deficiency, which can wreak havoc on the body.

Studies show that eating a high-protein diet has a number of health benefits. You’ll be surprised to see how many foods you can eat on a high-protein diet. Even people on a vegetarian or vegan diet, who sometimes turn to processed foods for energy, have enough high-protein foods to choose from.

We need to eat plenty of protein foods every day to keep our metabolisms running, our energy up and our blood sugar levels stable.

You might eat enough protein overall, but do you eat the right kinds?

Life Priority takes all the guess work out of getting enough of the right protein with our Whey of Life Protein.

Holidays

Healthy Treats Naughty & Nice List

The holidays have so many exciting and sometimes stressful things going on, ranging from family, shopping, decorating and food. There are so many different things going on that staying healthy might take a back seat to the rigors and pleasures during this special time of year. Besides always being on the run, what people consume plays a huge role in their health.

Here are our dos and don’ts for holiday eating this year. Find out what foods and drinks made our naughty and nice lists below.

DO: Water

Water is very important to overall health because the human body needs an adequate amount to function properly. In addition, drinking water can also curb appetite and help people feel fuller so they won’t eat as much. Finally, water is healthier than other alternatives like alcohol and other holiday favorites.

DON’T: Eggnog

Eggnog is a classic holiday favorite, but it can get people into trouble with all the calories packed into this delightfully tasty drink. Each glass of eggnog can contain more than 300 calories, and if alcohol is added, that number can increase significantly.

DO: Seafood

Seafood might sound like a strange suggestion during the holiday season, but it’s a very good choice. Seafood isn’t as fatty as other holiday classics, and can be just as great tasting and satisfying. Also, seafood is high in protein, which can be helpful in losing weight and keeping the pounds off when exercising regularly.

DON’T: Ham and Turkey

Although ham and turkey are the signature entrees for the holidays, both can be full of calories. Turkey (and other dark meat) contains more than 350 calories and over 20 grams of fat per serving. People may think it’s quite healthy, but in reality in can be quite fatty.

DO: Light Snacks

Everyone likes to reach for cookies and pie and everything in between, but incorporating snacks like fruit and vegetables instead of desserts can help keep the pounds off. A nice apple croissant or ranch dressing combined with a fruit or vegetable can satisfy those hunger cravings without adding the extra weight.

DON’T: Pies and Sugary Desserts

Around this time of year, people start baking their famous pies! They taste so great and everyone marvels at their baking expertise. They are reluctant to exchange recipes because they know their pies and specialty dessert recipes are one-of-a-kind. While all this is true, most pies are made with ingredients loaded with calories. Some pie slices can contain more than 400 or 500 calories! These great-tasting treats may not be worth the extra calories in the end.

We hope this guide will help you choose more wisely between the naughty and nice treats this holiday season. We wish you the happiest of holidays from all of us at Life Priority.

Soda pop is an easy buy at the store and everyone loves it, but pop is not healthy for us and can hurt us more than we realize.

Drop the Pop and Lose the Weight!

The concept of losing weight is at the forefront of many people’s minds, but sometimes the process is more difficult than first believed. Fatty foods need to be cut out, if not Factors may increase weight loss success that most don’t consider. Drinks like soda pop also plays a huge role in losing weight.reduced, and an increase in exercise is essential, but other factors may increase weight loss success that most don’t consider. What we drink also plays a huge role in losing weight, and drinks like soda pop and sweetened tea are first on the chopping block.

Beverages like soda pop and sweetened tea are loaded with sugars and calories which are not beneficial for those trying to lose weight. In fact, sugar can kill muscle gain and increase the bad fats in our bodies. A recent study asked people to drink 450 calories worth of pop and eat 450 calories of jelly beans in successive weeks. The week of jelly bean consumption showed participants compensated for the intake of this candy by not eating as many calories in their other meals. On the flip side, when they had to drink the pop, they did not compensate which means they consumed vastly more calories. Another study found that drinking beverages high in calories, means we are more likely to take in more calories through our meals than if we drank a beverage with fewer sugars and calories.

The worst part is that people consume these types of sugar-loaded drinks on a daily basis without considering the extra calories they are adding to their diets. Another important consideration is the consumption of 2 servings per day of artificially sweetened soda is associated with a 2-fold increased odds for kidney function decline in women.

In conclusion, the most important thing to remember from this study is that more and more people will continue to gain weight until they reduce or eliminate their intake of soda and other similar beverages. So if you’re wanting to lose weight or keep the pounds off, a good place to start is being more critical of what’s in your cup.

Study-Can one cup of coffee contribute to overweight and obesity in men?

Life Priority Blog 9.15.2015 Published-

Can one cup of coffee contribute to overweight and obesity in men?

Study: British Journal of Nutrition 28 Aug 2015

This is potentially big news because glucose is an important factor in our natural energy. If one cup of coffee can slow down the process of breaking down glucose, that temporary boost in energy is more costly than perceived. It could have longer lasting effects on our body that actually leave some people with less energy because the glucose in their body isn’t being broken down properly.

Almost everyone is looking for a morning or mid-afternoon pick-me-up and energy drinks and coffee are usually the solution. These caffeine infused drinks can provide short-term energy, but usually lead to a crash later. At the same time, energy drinks and coffee are not the healthiest solutions to the lack of energy dilemma someone might experience.

A recent study in the United Kingdom suggests that just one cup of coffee can affect glucose metabolism. They tested overweight men and varied the amount of caffeine the men received, and the results showed that just two grams of caffeine (equivalent to one cup of coffee) can make glucose metabolism and response worse.

An alternative to coffee could be Lift. Lift is an all-natural energy-drink mix (also available in capsule form) that can help boost energy. Lift doesn’t fill your body with caffeine; instead it uses L-phenylalanine to potentially help elevate your energy levels, mental clarity and happiness. Those three things are pretty important for everyone’s day so they might have a great one. So take your health into your own hands and start living more healthy. Think more about what you put into your system and try to make your health your top priority. Your diet alone can’t get you all the nutrients you need to stay healthy, so see if Lift is right for you.

breakfast

Breakfast: Still the Most Important Meal

With summer fast approaching, many people are trying to lose weight and rediscover their “swimsuit bodies.” This often includes a lot of diet and exercise, but the key to weight loss may be found in breakfast.

Many people skip breakfast and instead bring snacks to hold them over, or worse, they wait until lunch to consume their first food of the day. While this may seem like a good way to cut out calories, it’s actually damaging in the long run. Without breakfast, people can feel hungry more often and thus eat more food, and in particular, non-healthy, sweet-tasting food. By eating a well-balanced breakfast, you can feel full longer throughout the day and not eat as much.

Eating breakfast sounds simple, but what should you eat for the most effective results? Doctors, healthcare professionals, nutritionists and dietitians all recommend a wide range of possibilities so you can pick what works best for your schedule, your dietary needs and that fit your taste buds.

Some healthy breakfast ideas include:

  • Hot oatmeal with berries and maple syrup
  • Scrambled eggs, a couple slices of Canadian bacon and some fruit
  • High fiber cereal with low-fat milk and a banana
  • A variety of berries coupled with low-fat Greek yogurt with some almonds
  • Smoothies consisting of low-fat Greek yogurt, sugar and berries
  • Whole wheat bread or English muffins with peanut butter and apples along with milk or juice
  • Burrito wraps with a dash of cheese, low-fat sour cream and salsa
  • Cottage cheese paired with fruits, vegetables and nuts

All of these are great ways to create a more healthy diet and start your day off strong. Using these ideas as a base and tweaking them to your liking (without straying too far) will give you more protein, fiber, potassium, calcium and various vitamins. In addition, you will feel full longer and not have the urge to reach for those always tempting high-sugar and fatty snack foods.

So make sure to start your day with a bang and make breakfast a priority. After all, mom always said breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it certainly is.
