The aging process is certainly not for the weak. The Speed of an MLB Fastball vs Father Time, Mother Nature by Greg Pryor.

The Speed of an MLB Fastball vs Father Time, Mother Nature!

The Speed of an MLB Fastball vs Father Time, Mother Nature! For 16 seasons as a pro baseball player, I had to deal with Mother Nature, Father Time, and What happens to MLB players when baseball season is over? A very important aspect of off season conditioning is the diet.hitting MLB fastballs in order to keep a job.  At age 66 now and looking back, I think that it was easier to hit a MLB fastball than it is to deal with Mother Nature and Father Time (Ma and Pa). The aging process is certainly not for the weak.

Recently, I saw two people who I had not seen for many years.  It was very evident from their appearance that they were much older from living with Ma and Pa.  The aging process never sleeps.  We all live closely with both Ma and Pa every day.  How does facing an MLB fastball fit into this equation though?

Recently, I watched a Netflix documentary called “Fastball”.  Many of the most notable fastball pitchers in MLB baseball history, the Fellers, Ryans, and Gibsons were interviewed with many of the best fastball hitters in history, the Brett’s, Bench’s, and Schmidt’s.   The MLB pitchers who were interviewed could throw a baseball from 95 MPH to 105 MPH.  The hitters interviewed explained how quickly they had to recognize the pitch and then swing their bats.  To find out how quickly that the brain/body needs react to hit a MLB fastball, go to this site. http://www.ballplayerplus.com/science-hitting-major-league-fastball/

Because I managed to work well enough with Ma and Pa in my career, I was able to keep a job hitting fastballs for 16 pro seasons.  Towards the end of my career, Ma and Pa “informed me” that I was unable to catch up to the fastball like I could when I was younger.  I knew that the best days of my career were almost over.

Keeping up with the fast pace in life is much like hitting a MLB fastball.  To succeed in life and in business, one needs to learn how to play the “game” and to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again.  If we don’t do it well enough, we miss out on opportunities to advance in our jobs or even lose our jobs.  We need to know when to make our decisions to swing early enough to get the hits that we want in every day life.

I am more aware of the aging process now more than when I was in my 20’s and 30’s. Now, I am more concerned about the aging of my brain than anything else. I am fortunate that, when I was 42, I was introduced to ways to slow up the aging process.

I knew that I was aging, but I was shocked at how quickly it seemed to be happening.  That is the biggest reason why I entered the health and nutrition industry.  I began learning how to slow up the aging process through the consumption of certain essential nutrients in adequate amounts.  I began encouraging the repair process each day. I use at least 6 different Life Priority nutrients via dietary supplements that may help “feed” my brain.  I do this because I do not want to be a burden on others because of my inability to think and reason properly.

Don’t wait until “the fastballs” in your life are being thrown by you!  Your body and brain is aging with each passing day.  The rally cry of the ’15 World Champion KC Royals was, “Keep The Line Moving!”  My rally cry to you is “Keep Your Brain Working!”.

For information on what dietary nutrients that I use to keep my brain nourished each day, send me an email at customerservice@lifepriority.com.  I will be glad to help you keep hitting the mental “fastballs” in your life.

Is Golf Physical or Mental?

By Greg Pryor

Although I played baseball on a professional level for over 16 seasons, I sometimes I wish I had played professional golf.  Both sports are difficult to master and a very small percentage of men and women are able to make their living at either sport.

The cover of the latest Southwest Airlines magazine showed a picture of a man who decided to put 10,000 hours of practice time into becoming the best golfer that he could be.  His goal was to play professional golf.

Regardless of your athletic goal, your success will be determined, in large part, by the way that you think during practice time and during competition.  If you want to improve your “game,” here are a few simple suggestions!

Greg & Max 1st golf outing!

Mental Strength

Having the mental strength to deal with failure in sports is crucial to improvement.  By mental strength, I mean specifically the ability to focus and concentrate to allow your muscle memory to take over your physical actions.

Your brain contains ten billion neurons (brain cells).  Between each neuron are neurotransmitters that are natural substances that help transmit your every memory, thought, and emotion.

The three most important neurotransmitters that support brain function are:

  • Noradrenaline is nature’s “natural speed” and your “get up and go.” This is what you want an adequate amount of in your brain as you compete in sports or when you head off to work.
  • Dopamine is a special neurotransmitter which helps with focus and concentration.  If dopamine levels are low we can have focus issues such as daydreaming or not remembering where we put our keys or not being able to stay on task.  Dopamine is responsible for our motivation.
  • Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter that helps you with memory and organization–the way you order things in your mind, the way you retrieve them in an orderly manner. It’s also involved in focus and concentration. Your body manufactures acetylcholine from a diet that contains the essential nutrients B5 and choline.

The ability to think more clearly and effectively and the drive to succeed are all tied directly to your brain’s ability to create adequate neurotransmitters.  If you provide your body and brain with the proper nutrients to make neurotransmitters, it could be the determining factor in your level of persistence and even your success or failure.

One time I made a 50 ft. putt in a charity golf tournament in front of about 200 onlookers. When I made the putt, I was simply thinking of how to make the proper putt and was able to cleanse my brain of all unnecessary thoughts.

Physical Support

Golf puts a strain on virtually every major joint in the body. The shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and back are in motion during every golf swing. It is difficult to repeat a good swing if one or more of those areas are misfiring or are experiencing joint pain.  Taking dozens of golf swings can put a stress on the cartilage, tendons, and muscles and lead to joint inflammation or osteoarthritis.  Having healthy cartilage is crucial to all athletic moves in any sport.

In 1996, I was experiencing severe pain in my right hand. The pain would not let me swing my golf clubs.  I began using glucosamine HCl and, after three weeks, the pain disappeared and my flexibility returned.  I have been using glucosamine HCl ever since.

Glucosamine HCl is a simple amino sugar made by the food that we eat and is one of the main building blocks for healthy cartilage.  As a retired pro athlete and owner of a health and nutrition company, Life Priority, I advocate the use of nutritional formulas for your health and the health of your golf game.

The Life Priority products, Joint Decision (glucosamine HCl) – a dietary supplement for joint pain, and my Mind, Lift and Muscle Memory products can help support the mental strength needed in all sports.

Do You Want a Real Lift for Mental Fatigue?

(Life Priority was formed in 1994 by owners, Greg and Michelle Pryor, to provide truthful, up-to-date information about dietary supplements and the supplement industry.  They also wanted to supply high-quality, research-based, health products to customers.  Greg and Michelle were retail customers of many of the products that are offered at Life Priority.)

Since 1991, Life Priority has been offering consumers high-quality, research-driven products. Many products are called Designer Food formulas and were created by Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw for their own personal use.  Durk & Sandy co-authored the NY Times best-seller, Life Extension, A Practical Scientific Approach, written specifically for doctors.  In the past, most medical schools did not give doctors much information about how vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. used in adequate amounts, could slow up the aging process, help improve memory, and speed up recovery after exercise or injury.

Durk & Sandy wanted to provide doctors with the research available at the time on how  certain nutrients could help people live a healthier lives, both mentally and physically.

At the time that Life Extension was published, the information was not available to doctors.  The information in the book has stood the test of time.

Several of the Life Priority Pearson & Shaw Designer Food formulas contain nutrients that the body use to make neurotransmitters.  Every thought and emotion in the brain is caused by the release of neurotransmitters.  In many cases, the modern-day diet does not provide enough of the nutrients necessary to make adequate amounts of neurotransmitters.  The Life Priority products, Lift and Lift Caps, contain specific nutrients found in food along with a small amount of caffeine, 80 mg per serving.  These specific nutrients may help the brain make and release noradrenaline, a neurotransmitter.

Those with low levels of noradrenaline generally have difficulty staying awake, concentrating, and paying attention to tasks.  When I used Lift for the first time in 1991, I knew that it worked because I felt bright-eyed and bushy-tailed within 30 minutes and it lasted for 4-6 hours!  It is, possibly, the healthiest and least expensive way to get “5 hour energy!”

It is important to realize that Lift does not need caffeine make it work.  The caffeine is added to simply help the brain release a little quicker.  The other nutrients in Lift and Lift Caps are what the body (brain) uses to make noradrenaline, not the caffeine.

The reason why I wrote the above information is to make you aware of what brain “energy” really is.  It is not simply caffeine!  Many caffeinated beverage do not contain enough nutrients to help your brain make more noradrenaline.  An over consumption of caffeine during the day, without replenishing the body with nutrients to make more noradrenaline, might cause a “crash” caused from excessive caffeine consumption.

The FDA suggests that a person does not consume more than 400mg of caffeine per day.

Thank you for reading.  I will be interested in hearing your comments or questions

Slowing Up the Aging Process in a Fast-Paced World

In today’s fast-paced lifestyles, most men are faced with increasing mental and physical What happens to MLB players when baseball season is over? A very important aspect of off season conditioning is the diet.demands as they age. Personally, I have found that an easy, logical way to slow up my aging process is to keep my body and brain more fit through the use of a few essential supplements with each meal.

I urge all men to consider, at least, the use of the following supplements: a high-quality multi to insure immune support, a potent omega-3 supplement for heart and brain health, specific nutrients that help promote a healthy prostate, and a simple amino sugar (glucosamine) for cartilage health.

I feel that the consistent, daily use of the right nutrients in supplement form (and in adequate amounts!) is one of the most important health decisions that we can make. Based on the past 20 years of being in the dietary supplement industry through my company, Life Priority, and my 16 year career as a pro athlete, I feel strongly that using high-quality supplements is imperative. No matter what you have read or what your doctor, chiropractor, nutritionist, etc. might suggest, your diet is most likely lacking in one or more essential nutrients. You can help yourself feel better and slow up your personal aging process by using high-quality supplements.

I have been involved as a retail customer or a marketer of dietary supplements since 1991. Prior to ’91, I was not aware of the value or importance of getting certain nutrients in my body on a consistent basis. Don’t leave your physical and mental well-being up to anyone else! It’s your life! Your body, including your brain, is aging each day and you can give yourself a better chance at living a healthier (and happier!) life by simply using enough of the right nutrients each day with meals or at bedtime.

Life Priority, Inc., was formed in 1994 to provide customers with time-tested high quality, research-based, scientifically-formulated health and nutritional products. A major Life Extension; Dopamine agonists such as cocaine and methamphetamine (“speed”) have been shown to increase the speed of the internal clock.;Arginine for pain, pain is the hallmark of sickle cell disease, with some patients in pain all of the time. Durk Pearson & Sandy Shaw.;Niacin; Debate in the health community about the benefits of synthetic ingredients (created in a laboratory) in nutritional supplements.reason that Life Priority was formed was because of the research of 2 scientists who were the co-authors of a NY Times best-seller Life Extension, A Practical Scientific Approach, which was written specifically for doctors. The authors, Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw, wrote Life Extension do that doctors could understand how using certain nutrients in adequate amounts could slow up the aging process.

Durk and Sandy’s multi-vitamin/mineral formula, One Per Meal Lifeguard, contains 25 different nutrients. Each Lifeguard capsule, meant to be used after meals 3 times per day, contains more than the minimum RDA’s. Three other Life Priority products, Omega-3 Priority, Prostate Priority, and Joint Decision/Total Joint Complex provide specific nutrients not contained in the Lifeguard product but do not contain many essential nutrients for specific areas of the body.

Take the advice of someone who, in 1991 at the age of 42, was enlightened by experts in the dietary supplement industry regarding the aging process–get more essential nutrients in your body each day by using “nutrition that you can feel!”

Food for Thought-Nutrition for Your Brain

August signals the beginning of fall and another school year.  As kids, we were excited to see friends after our summer vacations but, most importantly, we knew it was a fresh start to learn new information, and we had to make our “grades”.

We can all improve our ability to remember things more easily and improve our cognitive functions through simple lifestyle changes such as incorporating memory exercises, healthy eating, physical fitness and stress reduction in our lives.

In your brain are ten billion neurons (brain cells). Between each and every neuron are neurotransmitters. Everything that happens in the brain…every memory, thought, emotion, innovation, every “wow, that’s great!”…is a result of the release of neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are natural substances made by nerve cells in your brain that transmit messages from one nerve cell to another.

Our bodies make them from our food or we can get them from dietary supplements. It is estimated that a high percentage of Americans have less than optimal levels of neurotransmitters. That’s why many have “brain fade” because our brains are not making enough neurotransmitters.

Life Priority is proud to offer 3 specific nutritional formulas, LIFT, LIFT CAPS, and MIND that provide the right nutrients (in the right amounts) that allow the brain to make and release more neurotransmitters.

The three most important neurotransmitters that support brain function and help students and athletes are:

  • Noradrenaline is an excitatory neurotransmitter and is nature’s “natural speed”.  It is your “get up and go” juice.  This is what you want working for you in the classroom, on the sports field, or when you head off to work in the morning.
  • Dopamine can help with focus issues such as not remembering where we put our keys, forgetting what a paragraph said when we just read it or simply daydreaming and not being able to stay on task.  Dopamine is responsible for our drive or desire to get things done–our motivation. Dopamine is made from phenylalanine, so when you take phenylalanine, plus other nutrient cofactors, you able to make more dopamine.
  • Acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter that helps you with memory and organization–the way you order things in your mind. It’s also involved in focus and concentration. Your body manufacturers acetylcholine from the essential nutrients choline and vitamin B5.

The ability to think more clearly and effectively and the drive to succeed are all tied directly to your brain’s ability to create adequate neurotransmitters.  If you provide your body (and brain) with the proper nutrients to make neurotransmitters, it could be the determining factor in your level of persistence and even your success or failure.

I wanted to share some thoughts with you about the odds to reach the major leagues and to play in a World Series.; Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw

Former ’85 Royals Partied Like it was 1985 in Arizona!

Every January for the last 10 years, I have attended the Kansas City Royals Fantasy Camp in Surprise, Arizona. This year’s camp was memorable because it was kind of like a reunion for the members of the 1985 World Championship team–I was an infielder.  The other players in camp included Steve Balboni, Buddy Biancalana, Bud Black, George Brett, Mark Gubicza, Mark Huismann, Charlie Leibrandt, Dennis Leonard, Hal McCrae, Darryl Motley, Greg Pryor, Jamie Quirk, Bret Saberhagen, Pat Sheridan, Jim Sundberg, John Wathan and Willie Wilson. Royals Hall of Famers, John Mayberry and Jeff Montgomery also attended.

greg-pryor-stretching-royals-fantasy-camp-2012

Fans attended the camp and were placed on one of six different teams and managed by three different Royals alumni. Campers played games against other teams and learned the fine points of baseball. The best part of the camp is after the games when alumni mingle with the campers in the clubhouse and share stories about our careers it was like to play in The Show.

At camp’s end, campers thanked the members us for helping to make the camp special. Many campers expressed how much the Royals and baseball have been such a great part of their lives.

Many campers have attended multiple Fantasy Camps. One of my favorite campers is Byron “The Professor” Strom. Byron is a former college chemistry professor from Iowa. He has attended the last 10 Fantasy Camps in Arizona. The Royals also appreciate The Professor. We showed him by giving him a signed jersey with number 85.

1985-royals-world-series-win

It was wonderful to see many of my old teammates. Our team had a special bond and we overcame great obstacles to win the World Series championship. In 1984, we had lost the AL playoffs to the Tigers who went on to win the World Series. Most of us came back to spring training in 1985 very eager to get back to the post-season. That year, we accomplished the ultimate goal of every player in MLB–to win a World Series ring. Even though the spirit of all of the alumni at the camp remains youthful, it was evident that all of us are affected by age.

Last season’s American League Champion Royals rejuvenated the fans and created new Royals fans all over the country. We are eagerly waiting for our team to return in April to begin another quest for a World Series trophy. Our core players, Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Escobar, Salvador Perez, Eric Hosmer, Jeremy Guthrie, Jason Vargas, Yordano Ventura, Danny Duffy, Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis, and Greg Holland are still on the roster. I hope that all of these players and our newest Royals are ready for the grind and to make it back to the post-season.

No matter what your personal grind in life, being healthy physically and mentally will be your MVPs and help you win! My company, Life Priority, Inc., was formed in 1994 to offer high-quality, research-based and time-tested dietary supplements. I invite you to contact me personally to discuss ways that may help you have a healthy winning season!

Make Every Day Your Opening Day for Fitness

Article by Greg Pryor published in Kansas City Sports & Fitness.

Greg Pryor - Kansas City Royals Fans are eagerly looking forward to Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium.  We are tired of single digit temperatures and melting snow drifts. Another “opener” is our signal of the beginning of warmer, sunny days ahead. Every spring from ‘67 to ’87, I was getting ready for another opening day for my college baseball team (’67-’71), or the professional team that I was with (’71-’87).  Maybe you should create an opening day attitude for your fitness schedule.

Your personal fitness goals ought to be structured so that you are prepared to get the most out of your exercise.  Most importantly, and as a compliment to a good diet, you should use dietary supplements to promote your recovery process.    You don’t have to be a professional athlete to benefit from supplements. It’s not all about being able to clock a faster time or lift more weight; supplements also serve as an insurance policy against the additional stress and energy needs brought on by exercise.

“It’s like you have one car to drive around for the rest of your life,” said Liz Applegate, Ph.D.,professor of nutrition at the University of California – Davis, and author of the Encyclopedia of Sports and Fitness Nutrition (Prima Publishing, 2002). “You wouldn’t start taking care of it after it was 20 years old. You would do regular maintenance.”

Just as a car’s maintenance needs change as it gets older, so do those of an active aging body.

“In general, nutrient requirements increase with exercise,” Applegate said. “But at different ages there are other considerations that come into play as well.”

  • Certain nutrients, not readily found in adequate amounts in the modern diet, can help encourage your mental energy and motivation in your job or workouts.  In 1991, I found two supplements, LIFT™ and MIND™ from Life Priority, that I use every day to help me feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to tackle each day like it is opening day!
  • Then, protecting the health of cartilage, tendons and ligaments should be at the top of your list as you exercise.  Glucosamine is a smart choice to support joint health and help speed recovery from injury or over use. Life Priority offers two great products for joint inflammation, JOINT DECISION™ and TOTAL JOINT COMPLEX™.
  • Exercise itself produces free radicals so, to prevent free radical damage to muscle tissue and from causing inflammation and soreness, use a mix of antioxidants prior to exercise. I suggest either the Life Priority ONE PER MEAL LIFEGUARD™ or LIFESHEILD™.
  • Finally, an amino acid that I have known about since ’91, arginine, is one of the most valuable nutrients that you can use prior to exercise.  Email me at customerservice@lifepriority.com for a free report on arginine and how to use it (available in the Life Priority product, MUSCLE MEMORY™) effectively for the best workouts of your life (and quicker recovery!)

No matter what your age, your body needs certain essential nutrients every day in adequate amounts. Don’t take your body and brain for granted!  Give it the best chance to have a great opening day, every day!
